Aim and Scope
The Kaduna Journal of Geography (KJG) is an open-access, double-blind peer-reviewed international journal published by the Department of Geography and Sustainability Studies, Kaduna State University, Nigeria (ISSN: 2636-5308 print; eISSN: 3121-6463 online).
Aim
The primary aim of the Kaduna Journal of Geography is to serve as a leading platform for the dissemination of high-quality, original research that advances the understanding of geographical processes, spatial patterns, and human-environment interactions. The journal seeks to promote cutting-edge scholarship in geography and closely allied fields, with particular emphasis on addressing contemporary environmental challenges, sustainability issues, and regional development concerns—especially within Nigeria, West Africa, and broader African and global contexts. By fostering rigorous academic inquiry, interdisciplinary dialogue, and evidence-based insights, KJG aims to contribute meaningfully to scientific knowledge, policy formulation, and sustainable development practices.
Scope
The journal welcomes original research articles, review papers, and short communications that align with its focus on geography and environmental sciences. It publishes work across a wide range of geographical sub-disciplines and related interdisciplinary areas, including but not limited to:
- Physical Geography: Climatology, geomorphology, hydrology, biogeography, soil science, and natural hazards.
- Human Geography: Urban and rural geography, population and demography, economic geography, political geography, cultural geography, and transport geography.
- Environmental Science and Sustainability: Climate change impacts and adaptation, land use/land cover change, ecosystem services, environmental degradation, conservation, renewable resources, and sustainability studies.
- Geospatial Technologies and Applications: GIS, remote sensing, cartography, spatial analysis, and geospatial modeling for environmental monitoring, urban planning, disaster management, and resource assessment.
- Regional and Development Studies: Focus on African (particularly Nigerian) geographical contexts, including urban dynamics, agricultural systems, regional inequalities, health geography, tourism geography, and resource management.
- Interdisciplinary Approaches: Studies integrating geography with fields such as environmental management, public policy, ecology, earth sciences, and social sciences to address complex socio-environmental problems.
The journal particularly encourages submissions that employ empirical, quantitative, qualitative, or mixed-methods approaches, and those offering innovative perspectives on local-to-global geographical issues. It prioritizes research with strong theoretical foundations, methodological rigor, and relevance to sustainable development goals (SDGs), environmental resilience, and regional planning in developing contexts.
