DORA Statement

Kaduna Journal of Geography (KJG)

The Kaduna Journal of Geography (KJG) fully supports and adheres to the principles of the San Francisco Declaration on Research Assessment (DORA). In alignment with DORA’s recommendations, the Journal is committed to improving the ways in which the quality and impact of scholarly research are evaluated.

Our Commitment

  1. Assessment Beyond Metrics:
KJG recognizes that journal-based metrics, such as the Journal Impact Factor (JIF), should not be used as a surrogate measure of the quality of individual research articles, or in assessing an individual scientist’s contributions.

  2. Article-Level Evaluation:
Each submission to KJG is assessed based on its scientific merit, methodological rigor, originality, and contribution to the discipline of Geography and Environmental Studies, rather than on the reputation of the author’s institution or previous publication venues.

  3. Transparency and Fairness:
KJG ensures that peer review decisions are made objectively and transparently, based solely on the scholarly content of the manuscript.

  4. Diversity of Research Outputs:
The Journal encourages the submission of diverse forms of scholarly communication — including datasets, maps, software tools, and applied research — recognizing their value to the scientific community.

  5. Responsible Use of Metrics:
When quantitative indicators are used, KJG applies them responsibly and in context, emphasizing their complementary rather than determinative role in research assessment.

  6. Promotion of Good Research Practices:
KJG actively supports open science, data transparency, and collaboration among researchers, institutions, and disciplines in accordance with DORA’s principles.
